About Cork Cat Action Trust
Who We Are:
Cork Cat Action Trust is a small, local, volunteer-run charity dedicated to the welfare of Cork’s most vulnerable cats – feral, stray, and abandoned. We are a completely non-profit organisation, and every euro raised goes directly towards veterinary care and supplies. Our volunteers receive no payment and cover all their own expenses.
Our Mission:
Our main goal is to stop the cycle of suffering caused by the uncontrolled breeding of feral cats. We do this through a humane Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programme. Feral cats are trapped safely, brought to a vet to be neutered, and returned to their home territory after recovery. This approach prevents thousands of unwanted kittens from being born into hardship and drastically improves the quality of life for existing cat colonies.
A single pair of breeding cats can, over time, produce up to 20,000 offspring. Without intervention, cat colonies in gardens, farms, industrial areas, and building sites can grow rapidly, causing suffering for the cats and challenges for local communities.
What We Do:
– Trap-Neuter-Return for feral colonies
– Provide vital veterinary care for sick or injured cats (amputations, vaccinations, blood tests, etc.)
– When possible, we foster and rehome friendly strays and kittens
– Offer advice and support to members of the public on cat welfare issues
We do not have a sanctuary, so space is always extremely limited. However, when foster homes are available, we tame, socialise, and find loving homes for cats in need.
Adoption Information
Adoption Fee: The adoption fee helps cover the cost of each cat’s veterinary care including vaccinations, neutering, and any other treatments they may have received. As a result, the fee may vary depending on the individual cat.Adoption Process:
Our adoption process begins with a phone conversation with a member of our rescue team. This helps us get to know you and understand what kind of cat would be the best match for your home and lifestyle. Once we’ve identified a suitable match, we’ll arrange a virtual home check. This allows us to ensure that the environment is safe and suitable for the cat. If everything looks good, one of our volunteers will bring the cat to your home and help get them settled in. Please note that we’re a small team of volunteers managing a high number of adoption and TNR-related requests. Because of this, it may take us some time to get back to you but we truly appreciate your patience and understanding.
