More about Barn cats/Outdoor cats
We’re often asked to help with finding alternative accommodation for outdoor/farm/barn cats. They are NOT pets. They come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Some are friendlier than others and, given time, may choose to become more domesticated, but they will always have a feisty streak.
We usually try to rehome barn cats in bonded pairs i.e from the same colony but occasionally we come across really independent cat who genuinely seems to prefer living alone.
Barn cats earn their living by keeping premises rodent free. All they ask in return is food and lodging. Barn cats will be neutered and health checked before being rehomed.
As they originate from an outdoor environment, you will need to have a secure shed or garage for the initial settling in period to house the new cat, until they get used to their new home. Otherwise they may simply wander off! After this initial period, they can be allowed to roam, and carry out their rodent patrolling duties, as nature intended!
Please note that we’re based in Co Wexford and you must be able to collect the cats from us.
